What did God promise the nation of Israel in 2 Samuel 7:16 about David's house, kingdom, and throne?

God promised the nation of Israel that David’s house and kingdom would be established forever before Him, and David’s throne would be established forever. This assured a continuing royal line from David, through which the King of kings, Christ, would eventually come and reign.

Les explains that 2 Samuel 7:16 is God’s promise to the nation of Israel: “Thy house and thy kingdom shall be established ever before thee, thy throne shall be established forever.” In the preceding verses, God says He will be his father and he shall be His son, will chasten him with the rod of men if iniquity comes, yet His mercy will not depart from him as it did from Saul. Les stresses that God doesn’t lie and cannot lie, so this royal family would continue through history and beyond history into eternity. Out of David’s royal family would come the King of kings, the Lord of lords, Christ, born of Mary with Joseph as His legal father, both descending from David and Solomon’s royal bloodlines. Les also notes that because Christ will come back to the nation of Israel, they must be in the Middle East at the time of His coming.
