What was Isaiah's attitude and inspiration when he said 'Lord, who believes us?'
The prophet Isaiah spoke out of frustration because most of Israel ignored the prophets and would not heed his message, yet he was inspired by the Spirit when he asked, “Lord, who believes us?” His words fell on deaf ears, as most of Israel paid no attention to the prophets.
Les teaches that this quotation goes back to Isaiah 53, where Isaiah asks, “Lord, who hath believed our report?” Les explains that even though Isaiah was a great prophet, most of his words fell on deaf ears. Most of Israel did not pay attention to the prophets and would have preferred to throw them into the dungeon or put them to death. So Isaiah spoke in frustration, yet he was inspired by the Spirit when he said, “Lord, who believes us?” Les also connects this to faith coming by hearing, but hearing requires God to speak first, as Deuteronomy 29:29 emphasizes.
Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
