When were Peter's epistles written?
Peter's epistles were written shortly before both Peter and Paul were martyred, after Paul's revelations and doctrine had been circulating for a long time. They are therefore later writings, not early ones. This timing shows Peter could build on Paul's established teaching.
Les explains that the little epistles of Peter were written just shortly before Peter and Paul were both martyred. By then, Paul's epistles and doctrine had already been out there a long time. Peter could therefore write 1 Peter 2 with the benefit of those earlier revelations, addressing believing Jews of the dispersion while also applying to us. The context of 1 Peter 2 uses the analogy of newborn babes desiring the milk of the Word and believers as living stones built into a spiritual house.
