Why is the growing world population a sign of the end times?
Growing population is a sign because it overwhelms nations with perplexity—problems they have no answer to—especially as poverty-stricken areas experience population explosions. The resulting overcrowding and poverty, where people have nothing except children, contribute to worldwide distress and turmoil, which Scripture presents as signs of the end time.
Les teaches that Luke 21:25 describes signs in the sun, moon, and stars, along with distress of nations and perplexity—meaning the world has problems it cannot solve. He points to turmoil in Liberia, Sri Lanka, and Yugoslavia, saying the whole world is in turmoil. He agrees with population pundits that the world is being inundated with people, and some of the most poverty-stricken areas are having a population explosion. Poor people are having children in poverty and do not know what to do. Using Haiti as an example, he describes abject poverty, where people have nothing except kids, with more and more people piled upon people. The world is in perplexity with no answer to its dilemmas, and he says this is all a sign of the end time.
And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
