What is the problem with most of Christendom today according to Romans 10:2?
Romans 10:2 identifies the problem: many have a zeal for God but not according to knowledge. They may attend church faithfully and never miss a service, yet they lack knowledge of Scripture and remain spiritually ignorant of its truth. This zeal without biblical understanding is the core issue.
Les explains that Paul is speaking about the Jew in Romans 10:2, but he says the same problem applies to most of Christendom today. Many may have a zeal, may never miss a church service, and may be present every day the door is open, but they have no knowledge of Scripture and are totally ignorant. Les illustrates with a couple who came to his class; the wife had been a Sunday school teacher for over 30 years and repeatedly claimed, "I know my Bible." By about the fourth week, without pomp or puffiness, she admitted, "I never knew I was so ignorant." Les points out that realizing we do not know it all is when we begin to learn, and he says he is in no different situation even yet.
For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.
