Why didn't God destroy Israel after they crucified Jesus?

God did not destroy Israel after they crucified the Messiah because of His mercy and grace, not because they deserved it. Though He had every right to wipe Israel off the map when they rejected and crucified Him, His grace forestalled judgment, just as His mercy and grace spared them after the golden calf.

Les teaches that grace was already evident in the Garden of Eden. After Adam and Eve sinned, they hid behind fig leaves, but God found them and restored them—that was mercy and grace. Likewise, when Israel went after the golden calf, God’s mercy and grace kept Him from destroying them. When Israel rejected the Messiah and crucified Him, God had every right to wipe Israel off the map, but He did not. Les says the reason was His grace. The same grace explains why God has forestalled destroying the whole human race, which deserves it, but He does not. Les adds that we can never fully comprehend it.
