Why did God allow Israel to reject Jesus?

God allowed Israel to reject Jesus because in His foreknowledge He knew they would not accept Him. Although they could have had the King and Kingdom by believing, their refusal served to fulfill God’s eternal purpose: the cross. The offer was valid, but they refused to see Him.

Les explains that in the early signs directed at Israel, the nation still had a flicker of hope to recognize the Messiah. He says they could have had the King and the Kingdom based on Old Testament promises if they had believed Him, but God in His foreknowledge knew they would reject it. So everything fell into place to fulfill the eternal purposes of God, which was the cross. Les notes that the offer was valid, but they refused to see Him, and that through the first three or four signs they could have repented. By the account of Lazarus, it was evident they would not accept Him.
