Why didn't God destroy Israel after they made the golden calf and fell into immorality?

God did not destroy Israel because of His grace. Grace is the divine attribute that kept Him dealing with the nation even after the golden calf and gross immorality. The same grace prompted Him to bring them out of slavery, seek Adam and Eve, and give Israel the entire system of worship.

Les teaches that grace is the one attribute of God that keeps Him dealing even with the nation of Israel after they had just made the golden calf and gone into gross immorality. That is why God did not destroy the nation: it was grace. The same grace explains why He comes through and gives them the whole system of worship. Les also points out that all the dimensions of the tabernacle in the wilderness are divisible by five, and five in Scripture is the number of grace. So even though the context is law, the attribute of God that gives the law to Israel is grace. Grace prompted God to bring them out of slavery, and grace prompted Him to go seeking Adam and Eve after they had disobeyed. The linen curtains comprise what we would call the outer fence, and the dimensions continue to reflect this emphasis on grace.
