Why should we follow what the Bible says instead of human reasoning?
Scripture, not human reasoning, is the standard because God's truth often flies in the face of human thinking. John 1:13 teaches believers are born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. Human lineage and natural descent cannot produce the new birth; only God does.
Les teaches that John's Gospel, chapter 1, verse 13, flies in the face of human thinking, so we have to go by what the book says, not what the human mind thinks. The verse describes believers as born into the family of God—the born ones, teknon—not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. Les explains that during Jesus' earthly ministry, the great opposition from the Jews, especially the Pharisees, was their pride in lineage and genealogy. They were not children of Esau or Ishmael; they were children of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Yet that natural pedigree could not make them born of God.
