How should we respond when Scripture contradicts human thinking?

When Scripture contradicts human thinking, we must go by what the book says, not what the human mind thinks. John 1:13 teaches believers are born of God, not of blood, fleshly will, or man’s will, even though that contradicts natural thinking and human pride in lineage.

Les explains that John 1:13 flies in the face of human thinking, but the believer has to go by what the book says, not what the human mind thinks. The verse speaks of those who became believers as born into the family of God—the born ones, teknon—who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. Les also notes Jesus was still dealing with the nation of Israel in His earthly ministry, and the Jews, especially the Pharisees, were proud of their lineage and genealogy. They claimed Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob rather than Esau or Ishmael. Yet Scripture says the birth into God’s family is of God, not human ancestry or human will.
