Why did the Reformers believe God was finished with Israel?
Many Reformation-era church leaders were basically anti-Semitic, accusing Israel of being the Christ killers. Consequently, they also concluded God had turned to the church with all the promises given to Israel because He was through with that little covenant nation.
Les explains that the largest part of Christendom—including Roman Catholics, Protestants, and many other groups—refuses to accept that God is not through with Israel. Most have set Israel aside. Back in the Reformation, most were basically anti-Semitic because they accused Israel of being the Christ killers, and consequently thought God had turned to the church with all the promises given to Israel because He was through with that little covenant nation. But Les says, don't you believe it. This book is adamant that even though God has set Israel aside for the last 2,000 years, He is one day going to bring them back to the land, as we see He is doing, and one day God is going to pick up where He left off with His covenant people.
