What does Colossians 1:16 say was created by God the Son and for Him?

Colossians 1:16 states that by God the Son all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, including thrones, dominions, principalities, and powers. Everything was created by Him and for Him. This identifies Him as Creator before anything else ever existed.

Les explains that the pronoun “who” refers to the Son of verses 13–14, whose blood provided redemption and forgiveness. Paul says this Son is the image of the invisible God, the visible appearance of the invisible Godhead, and the firstborn of every creature, meaning He is before anything else ever existed. In verse 16, Les emphasizes that by God the Son all things were created—in heaven and earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, dominions, principalities, or powers. Everything was created by Him and for Him. Les warns against bringing this person of the Godhead down to the level of mankind’s other gods, calling it blasphemy, and says He is the Creator whom every human being will one day know—the lost meeting Him at the great white throne.
