Where was Abram when God first spoke to him?

God first spoke to Abram while he was still in Ur of the Chaldees. There he gave Abram one command: leave Ur and his family and go to a land that God would show him. By faith Abraham went, beginning God's dealing with the man from whom Israel would come.

Les explains that this is the Abrahamic covenant in Genesis chapter 12. This marked the beginning of God's dealing with the man through whom the nation of Israel would come. Les ties this back to Paul's discussion in Romans 9–11, noting that while the covenants themselves belong to Israel, we now experience the salvation that runs over from them.
