What did God tell Abram when He first spoke to him in Ur?
When God first spoke to Abram in Ur, He told him to leave Ur and his family and go to a land that God would show him, which would be Canaan. However, God did not tell Abram where that land was. Abram appears to have been fifty years old at that time.
Les explains that in Acts 7, Stephen is rehearsing Israel’s history. He points out that God first spoke to Abram in Ur, telling him to leave Ur, leave his family, and go to a land that God would show him—which would be Canaan. Yet God did not tell Abram where that land was. Les notes that Abram appears to have been fifty years old when the Lord first spoke to him. Les also uses a map to show Ur’s location near the Euphrates River, though scholars differ on which side.
