Can you build a doctrine from isolated Bible verses?
No. Scripture teaches that no Scripture is a private interpretation. A doctrine cannot be built on one verse here and another verse there, because that method can be used to build anything. The proper approach is to compare Scripture with Scripture, using all the Scripture from Genesis through Revelation to see that it all fits.
Les explains that the best way to study is to compare Scripture with Scripture, because Peter says in his epistle that no Scripture is a private interpretation. That means a person cannot build a doctrine by taking one verse here and one verse there; with that method you can build anything. Instead, it is our prerogative to use all the Scripture from Genesis through Revelation and see that it all fits. Seemingly contradictions may arise, but when you study, they fade away and are not contradictory at all.
