Les Feldick Bible Study

What happens if you build doctrine from isolated verses?

Building doctrine from isolated verses allows you to construct anything, because no Scripture is a private interpretation. The proper method compares Scripture with Scripture, using all Scripture from Genesis through Revelation, ensuring it all fits together. Seemingly contradictions may arise, but under consistent study they fade away.

Les explains that Peter says in his epistle that no Scripture is a private interpretation. That means you cannot build a doctrine on one verse of Scripture here and one verse there, because by doing that you can build anything. The better way to study is to compare Scripture with Scripture. It is our prerogative to use all the Scripture from Genesis through Revelation and see to it that it all fits. Seemingly contradictions may arise, but when you study, they just sort of fade away and are not contradictory at all.

Because no Scripture is a private interpretation, you cannot build a doctrine on one isolated verse here and another verse there; if you do, you can build anything you want.
