What makes Christians more than conquerors in Romans 8:37?

Christ Jesus alone makes believers more than conquerors. It is not through any human ability, possession, or merit, but through Him. His grace and mercy, poured out at the cross, secure the victory, so Christians overcome all things by His power, not their own.

Les explains that Romans 8:36 says believers are like sheep accounted as slaughter, yet verse 37 declares that in all these things we are more than conquerors. He emphasizes that this is not of what we have and not through any ability that I or you have; what makes us conquerors is Christ Jesus. He becomes everything. Les points to Colossians, which says whatsoever you do in word or deed, do it unto Him, for that is where we live and move. He stresses there is nothing in us that can merit any favor with God; it is all of His grace. Grace could never have happened if it were not for mercy, but we no longer have to cry for mercy because God poured out His mercy on Christ on the cross. Since His mercy has been poured out, now He can give grace, unmerited favor. We don't deserve any of this.

Romans 8:36

As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

Romans 8:37

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
