Can the powers that be ever harm the believer's eternal inner part?
No. Whatever the powers that be may do to the believer’s flesh, they can never touch the invisible eternal part, which is in God’s hands. Because God is for us, nothing can be against us; this rests on the truth that He spared not His own Son but delivered Him up for us all.
Les explains from Romans 8 that the promises of God being for us mean we can rest assured. Regardless of what someone or what the powers that be may do to the flesh, they can never touch that invisible eternal part of us, because it is in God’s hands. Les stresses that we should never lose sight of this promise: God is for us, and consequently nothing can be against us. The reason God can make such promises is given in verse 32: He spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all. Les also notes that Paul never writes to anyone but believers, so when Paul uses “us,” he is speaking of himself and fellow believers.
What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
