Les Feldick Bible Study

Can going to church on Sunday and not applying the Bible get you into heaven?

No. A Sunday morning appearance or hearing Scripture without the indwelling Holy Spirit and without taking it to heart cannot secure heaven. Scripture says that if any person lacks the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His, and such outward religion will not place anyone into the Creator’s eternal presence.

Les explains that the proof or criteria is whether the Holy Spirit dwells within you: if He does not, a person is on thin ice; if He does, that person is solid. He warns that people cannot simply take these things in one ear and out the other, dress up a little on Sunday morning for an hour, and then hope to spend eternity in the presence of their Creator—it is not going to happen. Paul gives such warnings to shake people out of an illusion. Les also points to Galatians, where Paul says Jesus Christ will judge all men according to his Gospel—that Christ died, was buried, and rose again—so everyone stands lost or saved by what they have done with Paul’s Gospel.
