Les Feldick Bible Study

Why does an unsaved person only care about worldly things?

An unsaved person remains in spiritual darkness and is blinded by the God of this world so he cannot believe. Having only the old Adamic nature, he naturally minds fleshly things, materialism, and worldly appetites, with no concept of the Spirit.

Les explains that this is a comparison between the lost individual and the saved individual, the true Christian. The flesh is the same word as sin, old Adam; those who are after the old Adam mind the things of old Adam. When a person is still out in the world, he is in spiritual darkness and blinded by the God of this world so that he cannot believe. Naturally, his only concern is the things of this world; he has fleshly appetites, fleshly vision, materialism, and no concept of the Spirit. By contrast, those who live according to the Holy Spirit mind the things of the Spirit. Les says he looks for this complete change in lifestyle and desire when someone comes to salvation.

Romans 8:5

For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
