Les Feldick Bible Study

What are unsaved people concerned with?

Unsaved people, being in spiritual darkness and blinded by the God of this world, are concerned only with the things of this world—fleshly appetites, materialism, and the old Adamic nature. They mind the things of the flesh and have no concept of the Spirit.

Les explains that Paul is drawing a comparison between the lost individual and the saved Christian. The unsaved person is still out in the world, in spiritual darkness, blinded by the God of this world so that he cannot believe. Naturally, his concern is only the things of this world. He has fleshly appetites, fleshly vision, materialism, and no concept of the Spirit. He minds the things of the flesh, which is the old Adamic nature. By contrast, the one living after the Spirit minds the things of the Spirit.

Romans 8:5

For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

Why do unsaved people only care about worldly, fleshly things?

The reason a person still out in the world minds only the things of this world and the flesh is that he is in spiritual darkness, blinded by the God of this world so that he cannot believe, leaving him with fleshly appetites, fleshly vision, materialism, and no concept of the Spirit.
