Why don't unbelievers respond when we try to share the gospel with them?

Satan has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so the light of the glorious gospel cannot shine into them. They see nothing to be gained in salvation and continue in total darkness. That is why they do not respond when we try to enlighten them.

Les teaches that the reason unbelievers do not respond to the gospel is that they are blinded by the powers of Satan. As the Scripture says, 'he hath blinded the minds of them who believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel should shine in unto them.' When we try to bring them to the joy of salvation, it is like water falling off a duck's back. They see absolutely nothing to be gained and go on their way in total darkness. This is what we are up against when we try to enlighten people. In contrast, Les points to Romans 8, where the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus sets us free from the law of sin and death, giving us a new outlook and hope for eternity. He also connects this to Romans 6:23, 'the wages of sin is death,' showing the two facts of life: being locked in sin and death versus freedom in Christ.

2 Corinthians 4:4

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
