Why does sharing the joy of salvation seem to have no effect on some people?
Some people are unaffected because Satan has blinded their minds, so the light of the glorious gospel cannot shine into them. They see nothing to be gained in salvation and continue in total darkness. This blindness is what believers face when trying to bring others to the same joy of salvation they enjoy.
Les explains that this is what we are up against when we try to enlighten people. We try to bring them to that same joy of salvation we enjoy, and it is just like water falling off a duck's back. Why? Because they are blinded by the powers of Satan; they see absolutely nothing to be gained, and consequently they go on their way in total darkness. By contrast, Romans chapter 8 declares that the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made us free from the law of sin and death. God is able to do an operation in our life that totally gives us a new outlook on life, hope for the eternity to come, a whole new ball game compared to being locked in to sin and death. Romans 6:23 still says the wages of sin is death, showing how sin and death are connected.
