How are Christ and believers united like a husband and wife?

Christ and the body of believers become one, just as a husband and wife come together and become one. This union is total integration: believers are in Christ, and Christ is in them by the Holy Spirit, since Christ bodily remains at the Father's right hand.

Les teaches that the union is pictured by a husband and wife coming together and becoming one; in the same way Christ and the body of believers become one and are totally integrated. He explains that the union runs both directions: believers are in Christ, and He is in them. Because Christ is bodily at the Father's right hand and cannot leave that place, His indwelling presence is by the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity. 1 Corinthians 3:16 says believers are the temple or dwelling place of God, and the Spirit of God dwells in them. Les notes the world knows nothing of this, but for those who love and know the Word it is plain, practical, and experiential.
