How does the Bible describe the union between Christ and believers?

Scripture describes the union as like a husband and wife becoming one: Christ and the body of believers become one, totally integrated. Believers are in Christ, and He is in them. Since Christ is bodily at the Father's right hand, His indwelling is by the Holy Spirit, making believers God's temple.

Les explains that the union is pictured as a husband and wife coming together and becoming one; in the same way Christ and this body of believers become one and are totally integrated. The relationship runs both directions: believers are in Christ, and He is in us. Les says the world knows nothing of this, but for those who love and know the Word it is plain, practical, and experiential. In 1 Corinthians 3:16, Scripture asks, “Don’t you know that you are the temple or the dwelling place of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” Because Christ is bodily at the Father’s right hand and cannot leave that bodily, Les concludes that Christ in us must be by the third person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit. He then turns to 1 Corinthians 6, noting that Scripture repeats things in short order for emphasis.
