Why are we living in a different time than most Christians historically lived in?

Believers today live in a different time from most Christians historically because the present government, at least so far, guarantees rights to assembly and religion. Many earlier believers endured tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, peril, and sword, yet none of these separate them from the love of God.

Les explains that this is an extremely different time than most Christians have had to live in because there is a government that, so far at least, guarantees rights to assembly and religion. He then moves to Romans 8 and the question of tribulation, distress, or persecution. Can the devil bring enough persecution to force a believer out of his place in the body of Christ? Never. Security rests on God's guarantee because of the work of the cross, not on what we have done or merit. He also notes famine, nakedness, peril, and sword. Paul went through nakedness, cold, thirst, and was beheaded, yet none of these things can separate the believer from the Lord.
