Why should a Christian's life be different from the world's?

A Christian's life should be different because every believer becomes a new person through a creative work of God. This produces changed appetites, lifestyle, behavior, and attitude. The old things pass away, and the believer's appetites and ways become totally different from the world's—as different as daylight and dark.

Les explains that every believer experiences a change of appetites, lifestyle, behavior, and attitude because they are a new person, different from what they were. This does not give a halo or make anyone sinless, but believers are the result of a creative work of a Creator God and have a whole new concept in life. Les illustrates this with a young man his age who spent every Saturday night in a tavern and bar, then asked why he never saw Les there. Les replied that he did not see the young man in church on Sunday morning. Their lifestyles and appetites are totally different, as different as daylight and dark. Les therefore questions professing Christians who see nothing wrong with doing everything the world does, because there must be a change in attitude and behavior. If there is no change, he doubts anything happened, since if we are the work of a creative act of God, old things and old appetites pass away and everything becomes new and different. He looks for that change in lifestyle before saying someone has come to salvation, and when it is genuine, he rejoices that the person has come to know the Lord and be born again.
