Does God expect unsaved people to be good?
No. The carnal mind is enmity against God and is not subject to His law. The unsaved person is rebellious and cannot admit sin or spiritual lack. God does not expect the unbeliever to keep His law or be a good person, because He sees their fallen nature.
Les explains that the unsaved person is in a state of rebellion, which makes them an enemy of God. They will not do what God says, admit they are a sinner, or acknowledge a spiritual lack in their life. The carnal or old Adamic mind is enmity against God and is not subject to the law of God. Therefore, God does not expect the unbeliever to keep His law or to be a good person, because God sees down in his nature that he is anything but good. Les also notes it is amazing that man is as civilized as he is given this truth.
Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
