Les Feldick Bible Study

Does God expect unsaved people to keep His law?

No. The unsaved person is not subject to the law of God, and God does not expect the unbeliever to keep His law or to be a good person. The carnal, Adamic mind is enmity against God and remains rebellious rather than obedient.

Les explains that the carnal or old Adamic mind is enmity against God. The next part of that verse says the Adamic nature is not subject to the law of God. Therefore, God doesn't expect the unbeliever to keep His law or to be a good person, because God sees down in his nature that he's anything but good. Les describes such people as enemies and rebels: they will not do what God says, admit they are sinners, or admit a spiritual lack. That state is rebellion, and a rebel is an enemy.

Romans 8:7

Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
