What is the Holy Spirit's role as our law in Christian living?
The Holy Spirit becomes our Law and guideline for Christian living—not a set of rules and regulations, but His influence and power. Indwelling believers, He is warm and loving, giving them the desire to live pleasing in God’s sight and taking away the desire to rebel.
Les explains that the Holy Spirit in actuality becomes our Law, our guideline for Christian living. This is not a set of rules and regulations, but His influence and power. The Law sat in cold stone, severe and condemning, and did nothing to help a person keep it. By contrast, the indwelling Holy Spirit is warm, loving, and embracing; He gives the desire first and foremost to live pleasing in God’s sight. He takes away the desire to be a rebel and to be obnoxious and wicked. This is the work of the indwelling Holy Spirit, not me or you. The Law was perfect but powerless, like a mirror that can show what is wrong but cannot clean you.
