In what sense is the Holy Spirit a law for Christians?

The Holy Spirit becomes the Christian's law as an inward guideline for living, not a set of rules and regulations but His influence and power. He gives believers the desire to please God and takes away the desire to rebel, doing what the powerless written Law could not do.

Les explains that the Holy Spirit in actuality becomes our Law, meaning He is our guideline for Christian living. This is not a set of rules and regulations, but His influence and His power. By contrast, the written Law sat in cold stone, was severe, condemned, and did nothing to help a person keep it. The indwelling Holy Spirit is warm and loving, embraces and cuddles us, and gives us first and foremost the desire to live pleasing in God's sight. He takes away the desire to be a rebel, obnoxious, and wicked. This is the work of the indwelling Holy Spirit, not me or you. The Law was perfect but powerless, like a mirror that shows what is wrong but cannot clean you. The Holy Spirit supplies the power and desire the Law could not.
