Why should believers constantly stay in the Word?
Believers should constantly stay in the Word so they remain grounded in the truth that salvation is by grace and faith plus nothing. It guards them against doubt, Satan's suggestions that they must do this or that, and legalistic errors like the Judaizers' demand for law-keeping or circumcision.
Les explains that the Book of Galatians constantly shows the difference between law and grace. The Judaizers were submarining the Galatian congregations by insisting that salvation by grace alone was insufficient and that believers had to keep the law and circumcision. Les points out that while circumcision is not our issue today, other insidious things creep into the lives of believers, causing them to doubt and wonder if they have believed enough. Satan then suggests they must do this or that. Therefore, Les teaches that believers must constantly stay in the Word so they know it is true and that salvation is by grace and faith, plus nothing. Paul then moves into chapter 3, verse 1, asking why he used the word foolish.
