Why is the law spiritual?
Paul writes that the law is spiritual because it was written by the finger of God, supernaturally presented to the nation of Israel, and is holy and God-given. It stands in contrast to carnal humanity, revealing sin and compounding sinfulness in the unsaved.
Les explains that the law is spiritual because God Himself wrote it with His finger and supernaturally presented it to Israel; it is holy and God-given. The law reveals what old Adam is made of, showing that everything the unsaved do is contrary to the will of a holy God. It compounds sinfulness by exposing sin. Paul contrasts this spiritual law with his carnal, fleshly state, sold under old Adam and under the curse that came when Adam sinned and plunged the human race into separation from the Creator. Even a religious Jew was no different.
For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
