Why is the law spiritual in Romans 7:14?

The law is spiritual because it was written by the finger of God, supernaturally presented to Israel, holy, and God-given. Its divine origin means it reflects God's holy will, while fallen man in Adam is carnal, fleshly, and sold under old Adam.

Les explains that the law is spiritual because any good religious Jew knew it was written by the finger of God and supernaturally presented to the nation of Israel. It was holy, God-given, and therefore spiritual. By contrast, Paul says, "I am carnal," meaning in his pre-saved condition he is fleshly and sold under old Adam. He is under the curse and the result of the fall in the garden. Les emphasizes that when Adam sinned, he plunged the whole human race under the curse and separated from their Creator, and the religious man was no different. The law reveals that everything he did was sinful and contrary to the will of a holy God, compounding his sinfulness.

Romans 7:14

For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
