Are Jews better than Gentiles in Romans 3?

No. Paul declares that Jews are in no way better than Gentiles, for both have been proved to be under sin and therefore in need of God's grace. The apostle's argument in Romans 3 places Jew and Gentile on the same footing, showing that all are sinners who must rely on grace.

Les teaches that in Romans 3 Paul is answering the charge that proclaiming God's grace as great and free means people can do as they please. Paul calls this a slanderous report and says those who affirm 'let us do evil that good may come' have a just condemnation. Then Paul asks, 'what then are we better than they?' and answers, 'No and no wise,' because both Jew and Gentile have been proved to be under sin and in need of God's grace. Grace is not license; it changes our appetites and motives. Therefore Jews are not better than Gentiles—all are sinners needing grace.
