who is the second Adam and what kind of spirit is he?

The second Adam is the man Christ Jesus, the God-man, brought on the scene as a life-giving spirit. This contrasts with the first Adam, who was made a living soul by creation and had perfect fellowship with his Maker. The second Adam is therefore a life-giving spirit.

Les explains that the first Adam was made a living soul by creation, in perfect fellowship with his Maker, so the Lord could walk with him in the cool of the day with nothing between them. Then the second Adam was brought on the scene as a life-giving spirit, in the person of the man Christ Jesus, the God-man. Les also notes that Matthew, Mark, and Luke deal with Christ in His humanity, while John depicts Him as the Son of God in His deity. That distinction helps explain why John omits the wilderness temptations, which had an immediate effect on His human side but no effect on His deity side.
