Who is the second Adam in biblical theology?
In biblical theology, the second Adam is the man Christ Jesus, the God-man. While the first Adam was made a living soul by creation, the second Adam came as a life-giving spirit, contrasting the first Adam's natural creation with Christ's spiritual life-giving role.
Les explains that the first Adam was made a living soul by virtue of creation, in perfect fellowship with his Maker, able to walk with the Lord in the cool of the day with nothing between them. Then the second Adam was brought on the scene as a life-giving spirit, in the person of the man Christ Jesus, the God-man. Les also notes that Matthew, Mark, and Luke deal with Christ in His humanity—depicting Him as King, Servant, and Son of Man—while John depicts Him as the Son of God in His deity.
