What is required for someone to be able to comprehend the Bible?
To comprehend the Bible, a person must first become a believer—a child of God through salvation and faith. Until that happens, Scripture is utterly impossible to understand. While an unbeliever may grasp stories or miracles, the deep things of Scripture remain beyond understanding until one becomes a child of God.
Les explains that until a person becomes a believer—a child of God by virtue of salvation and faith—the Bible is utterly impossible to comprehend. He acknowledges that an unbeliever may read some stories and miracles and get something out of them, but the basic deep things of Scripture cannot be understood until one becomes a child of God. He points to 1 Corinthians 2:13-14 and illustrates this with a man who attended his class for three years yet still said he could not understand all this.
