What is required before a person can understand the Scriptures?
A person must first have a salvation experience and enter into a relationship with Christ. Until then, they remain in the natural man under the old Adam and cannot comprehend Scripture. After salvation, the Holy Spirit enlightens them and the Scriptures begin to open up.
Les teaches that a person cannot comprehend these things from the natural man. First and foremost, one must have a salvation experience. Then the Holy Spirit enlightens them, and the Scriptures begin to open up. He is blunt with people who say they cannot understand the Word: once they come to know the Lord, they will. The problem is that when people cannot get anything out of the Word, they know nothing of salvation, are still in the natural, still living under the old Adam, and will never comprehend the Scriptures until they enter into that relationship with Christ by virtue of their salvation experience.
