Why is living it up in this world for 70 years ultimately worthless compared to eternity?
Even a full seventy years of worldly pleasure is fleeting and cannot compare to eternity, described as billions upon billions of years and forever and ever. For the believer, justification by faith and peace with God give access to a relationship with the Creator that lasts eternally.
Les explains that the world thinks it is living it up, and even if people could live it to the full for a whole 70 years, that is nothing compared to the billions upon billions upon billions of years that eternity will be. If only people could get that perspective, they would see it is not merely limiting ourselves and ignoring the pleasures of this world for a few years of bliss. For the believer, it is an eternity forever and ever and ever. This eternal state is tied to being justified by faith, having peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, and having access by faith into a relationship with the Creator Himself.
