What does it mean for salvation to be by grace?
Salvation by grace means it is totally the unmerited favor of God on our behalf. We must keep our hands off it, not adding law or circumcision. It is received by faith, as Abraham walked by faith without law, so the promise is sure to all the seed.
Les teaches that if it is going to be of grace, we have to keep our hands off of it. It must be totally the unmerited favor of God on our behalf—that is grace. He ties this to verse 16, where the promise is sure to all the seed, not only to that which is of the law but also to that which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all in the spiritual realm. Abraham walked by faith without law and without circumcision, coming out of abject idolatry, and that is where we have to come from.
