Why is our society and welfare system in such a mess according to this teaching?
According to this teaching, society and welfare are in such a mess because the Christian community failed to do its good works from day one. Welfare programs should have been carried out by the believing element, but Christian good works have largely gone by the boards, leaving welfare grossly mismanaged.
Les teaches that good works follow salvation; they do not produce it. In Matthew 25, the sheep met the needs of Christ's brethren because they were believers, while the goats rejected the message and showed no concern for physical needs. Applying that same principle, Les explains that society today would not be in its mess and the welfare system would not be a grossly mismanaged mess if the Christian community had done their good works from day one. But they failed. All welfare programs should have been carried on by the believing element, yet too much Christian good works has gone by the boards along with everything else.
