Who are the children of Abraham according to Paul in Galatians?
Paul teaches in Galatians that those who are children of faith are also the children of Abraham. Gentile believers do not become Jews, but because Abraham was saved by faith plus nothing, everyone who enters salvation by faith alone is counted as Abraham's child.
Les explains that Abraham is one of the Old Testament characters Paul alludes to more than anyone else. In Galatians, Paul says that we who are children of faith are also then the children of Abraham. Les notes this throws a curve at people—does becoming a Christian make you a Jew? No; a Gentile is a Gentile, and salvation does not make a Jew out of anyone. The connection is that Abraham was saved by faith plus nothing: he did not sacrifice, practice circumcision, or have law. He simply did what God said to do. Likewise, we enter in by faith alone.
