Les Feldick Bible Study

Why does requiring someone to beg for forgiveness contradict the Bible?

It contradicts the Bible because begging treats Christ's payment as unfinished. Scripture says all God's mercy was poured out at the cross, every sin was paid in full, and God has already forgiven all humanity. He does not expect begging; He declares people forgiven and reconciled, asking only that they believe it.

Les explains that the question whether one must beg the Lord for forgiveness is answered 'No.' If a person still has to beg for forgiveness, then the Book is a lie, because all the mercy of God was poured out on the cross. God has already forgiven every human being all his sin; it was paid for in full. God does not expect someone to beg to be forgiven but says, 'You are forgiven. Believe it.' Les also points to 2 Corinthians 5 and the word 'reconciled': the world has already been reconciled to God. He notes that for every human being from Adam to the end of time, every sin has already been paid for, so the only thing God asks now is to believe it. He connects this to Hebrews 2:9.
