Why did Paul become the apostle to the Gentiles?

Paul became the apostle of the Gentiles as a result of God's grace and saving him on the road to Damascus, as the Holy Spirit inspired him to write. This dramatic conversion turned him from a zealous Jew practicing Judaism into the apostle of the Gentiles.

Les teaches that Saul of Tarsus was a zealous Jew deeply involved in Judaism, likely high in the religious hierarchy. His conversion in Acts chapter 9 was a tremendous turnaround. On the road to Damascus, God saved him by grace, and from that point he became the apostle of the Gentiles. Paul later recounted this in Galatians, writing under the Holy Spirit's inspiration, showing that his apostolic calling to the Gentiles flowed from God's saving grace, not from his former life in Judaism.
