Where do religious people naturally think God lives?
Regardless of their religion, religious people naturally think of God's abode as heaven—up there somewhere. They envision Him above them, but they do not know exactly where He is, only that He is up there. This instinctive upward orientation appears in Saul of Tarsus, who looked up as light from heaven shone on him.
Les explains that a religious person, no matter what religion he may be attached to, normally thinks of the abode of his God as heaven—up there someplace. When we think of God, we think of Him up there somewhere; we don't know where, but He's up there. Saul of Tarsus was no different. As he saw the penetrating light coming from above, second nature told him that his God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, was dealing with him, so he asked, 'Who art thou, Lord?'
