What must a person be saved by in order to rightly be called a Christian?

To rightly be called a Christian, a person must be saved according to the Gospel of the grace of God: believing that Christ died for our sins, rose from the dead, and ascended. The Word of God first called Gentile believers at Antioch Christians, not the Jewish believers centered in Jerusalem who were under covenant promises.

Les explains that the Word of God never refers to the Jewish believers centered in Jerusalem as Christians. Instead, Acts 11 records that the Gentile believers at Antioch were first called Christians. Les insists that a person cannot be called a Christian unless saved according to the Gospel of the grace of God—that Christ died for our sins, rose from the dead, and ascended. He contrasts this with Jewish believers under covenant promises, like John the Baptist's followers and those saved at Pentecost. Les refuses to call such Jewish believers Christians, noting that even the best theologians mix this up.
