What happened when Peter and John preached the resurrection of Christ?

When Peter and John proclaimed the resurrection of Christ and the hope of resurrection for believers, it caused a hornet’s nest, especially among the Sadducees, the Jewish religious leaders who denied resurrection and life hereafter. Their preaching flew in the face of that group and stirred sharp opposition.

Les explains that Peter and the rest of the twelve continued preaching that the Jesus whom they had crucified had been raised from the dead. This flew into the face especially of one group of Jewish religious leaders, the Sadducees. The Sadducees did not believe in a resurrection of the dead or in a life hereafter; the only eternalness they conceived of was passing something on to the next generation, and that was what they thought of as eternal life. So when Peter and John and the rest began to proclaim the resurrection of Christ and the hope of resurrection for other believers, that caused a hornet’s nest.
