How does God reveal hidden things in Scripture?

God, being sovereign, keeps the secret things belonging to Himself and reveals them only periodically, at His chosen time. He does not disclose everything at once; He unveils hidden truths progressively so that people who previously lacked understanding may later grasp what He was doing.

Les teaches that God has over and over said He is keeping secrets and not telling everything. Deuteronomy 29:29 says the secret things belong unto the Lord our God. God is sovereign and has the right to hide things; even the psalmist asked why He hides these things. Therefore Scripture can only be studied with the understanding that only periodically does God reveal something people previously did not understand. For example, in Acts chapter 3 Peter and John still had not understood what God would put on Christ's death, burial, and resurrection; they only understood He was Messiah, Son of God, proven by miracles, and only for Israel. Yet God had not blanked the Gentiles out; He would use the favored covenant nation to reach pagan idolatrous Gentiles at the appropriate time, but Israel was dragging their feet, so that time had not come.

Deuteronomy 29:29

The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.
