Les Feldick Bible Study

Why did Jesus wait before going to Lazarus when he heard Lazarus was sick?

Jesus purposely delayed responding to the message that Lazarus was sick so that Lazarus would die. The sovereign God does everything with a purpose, and this delay allowed Jesus to return later and raise Lazarus from the dead, demonstrating that His timing served a specific divine intention.

Les teaches that when Lazarus was sick, Mary and Martha sent word to Jesus that he was sick. Jesus purposely delayed responding to them so that Lazarus would die, so that He could go back and raise him from the dead. Les explains this as an example of the sovereign God doing everything with a purpose. The delay was intentional, not neglect, and it set up the miracle of resurrection.
